Product Design, Learning Experiences, and Sustainability

I'm a researcher, designer, and a developer. I take abstract ideas and make them real. I've invented and built digital products, starting with user research, writing specifications and designing interfaces to writing code, building databases, writing copy and documentation, and hiring and coordinating teams.

I'm also a teacher and I design learning experiences for products and for classrooms. For students, I design curricula and materials that help them grapple with theoretical concepts and practical implementation. For products, I create content and interfaces that help new users understand key concepts and features while also helping advanced users find new utility as they grow.

As both a teacher and a developer, I care deeply about sustainability. I listen constantly for feedback and adjust as needed to make materials and content as accessible as possible to everyone. With products, this also means having clear maintenance procedures, from the basics of keeping servers running to fixing bugs and defending against attacks.

Selected Work

These materials are representative of my writing, learning, and design values. They illustrate not just the work I've done and knowledge I've shared, but the teams I've led and worked alongside, the challenges we've overcome, and the surprising things we've accomplished. The Work Samples section has a complete list of all my online materials.

Case Studies

Extended stories of challenges I've faced and how I've worked with my teams to deliver on-time, requirements-driven work. For more, see my complete list of case studies.

Speaking and Publishing Samples

Sharing knowledge is an important part of my professional life. I'm always looking for opportunities to share what I've learned in talks, publications, or workshops. For more, see my complete list of speaking and publishing work.

About Me

Seeing the World One Park at a Time

When Iā€™m not pushing pixels, you can find me at the movies, running, baking, or planning my next trip. I want to see as much of this world as I can with the time I have on it, but I have a particular fondness for islands, mountains, landmarks and national parks. On my bucket list: seeing every US National Park and stepping foot on every continent.

New York pizza > Chicago pizza, Pepsi > Coke, and Better Call Saul > Breaking Bad (let's fight).
